E3 2016 Reaction Tweets

E3 2016 Reaction Tweets

I thought I'd do something a little different this for E3. I'll have some focused articles on various E3 games and announcements over the coming days and weeks, but I thought I'd also highlight some of my tweets with off-the-cuff reactions to the conferences.

You can follow along for the full discussion on my Twitter account, too, of course.

Smash Bros. Livestream = amiibo Overload

Smash Bros. Livestream = amiibo Overload

This morning's Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS livestream on Twitch had a lot of news (some of which had leaked), but I'm most excited about some of the awesome-looking amiibo announced. Before we get into that, though, let's talk about some of the other news.

Nintendo Stealth-Releases Stretchmo

Nintendo Stealth-Releases Stretchmo

In a surprise move this week, Nintendo stealth-released Stretchmo, the third game in the Pushmo/Crashmo series on 3DS, without any advance notice and with a "free to start" purchasing model.

While it's great to see Nintendo continue to support a really inventive, newer series, I'm more interested in the way they released Stretchmo and what it means for Nintendo's future.

StreetPass Update on 3DS!

StreetPass Update on 3DS!

Nintendo, as promised in their recent Nintendo Direct video, released the latest update to StreetPass Mii Plaza this week (4.16.2015) that includes two new games, a set of free updates, and the ability to purchase a set of paid enhancements. Let's dive into all the details!

So Let's Talk about Nintendo's News

So Let's Talk about Nintendo's News

You've now doubt heard the news: Nintendo is finally going to (co-)develop games for smart devices (and, apparently Windows PCs?) and they have confirmed the development of their next gaming system, code-named the "NX." Big changes for the house of Mario.

Let's dig into the theories, implications, and wild guesses.

Majora's Mask 3D is Coming Spring 2015!

Majora's Mask 3D is Coming Spring 2015!

Ever since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D got remastered for Nintendo's portable 3DS, fans have been asking the company (and series creator Shigeru Miyamoto) if they would consider giving the same treatment to its much stranger, almost cult-classic-status sequel, Majora's Mask.

Well, it may have taken over three years, but Nintendo announced today that The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D is headed to 3DS (and 2DS and New 3DS) systems in Spring 2015.

The Long Journey to Minecraft PS Vita

The Long Journey to Minecraft PS Vita

Finally! As announced on the PlayStation Blog today, Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition has a release date, and it's next Tuesday, October 14, 2014. If you haven't been following the saga, this might seem like such a big deal, but it's actually been a pretty long and winding road to get to this point.

Major 3DS Update Brings Themes

Major 3DS Update Brings Themes

In what's apparently a week full of themes hitting handheld consoles for the first time, Nintendo has released their latest OS update that brings support for custom themes (as well as a few other bells and whistles).

Here's a photographic roundup of what you can expect when you update!

Microsoft, Minecraft, and PS Vita (Update)

Microsoft, Minecraft, and PS Vita (Update)

UPDATE: So the rumors were true: Microsoft bought Minecraft for $2.5 billion. However, the good news, at least for now, is that the Vita version appears to be safe.

Original: Reports and rumors have been flying this week that Microsoft is in talks to acquire Minecraft studio Mojang to the tune of $2.5 billionThe most concerning thing, though, is that it may impact the fate of the yet-to-be-released PlayStation Vita port of Minecraft, which many have looked to as the perfect portable version of the game.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Goes Xbox Exclusive

Rise of the Tomb Raider Goes Xbox Exclusive

Well, you can file this one under "annoying announcements." At Gamescom today, Microsoft announced that 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox exclusive, at least "for holiday 2015."

Nintendo's SDCC Twitch Stream

Nintendo's SDCC Twitch Stream

San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is happening this weekend, and Nintendo has a major presence at the show and on the twitch streaming service. They're hosting all kinds of contests during convention and live-streaming it all on twitch as part of Nintendo Challenge Live. While the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS have been the main focus of many of the tournaments and match-ups, what really caught my eye was a clever competitive round of NES Remix 2

Mario Kart Takes over McDonald's

Mario Kart Takes over McDonald's

Consider this your official reminder that McDonald's is currently offering a most excellent set of Happy Meal toys: Mario Kart has taken over the "golden arches" with a lineup of seven racers in karts and bikes (and a...plastic visor?). It's been a long while since McDonald's has had a set of toys that really caught my eye, but I have fond memories of traveling from store to store, especially on vacations, trying to complete a particularly interesting collection. And so begins my quest anew.

Can Pre-Order Bonuses Stop, Please? (Update)

Can Pre-Order Bonuses Stop, Please? (Update)

You may have heard that a new Alien game is in production, called Alien: Isolation. It's garnered a lot of very positive buzz during the course of its development as the developers are smartly targeting the nostalgia for the original film. As such, it's great news to hear that there will be some bonus content featuring the cast of the USS Nostromo directly from the original film. It's much worse news to hear how they're doing it. Read the full post to learn why.

Xbox E3 2014 Press Conference

Xbox E3 2014 Press Conference

I realize that it's Wednesday and the Xbox press conference was Monday, but it's taken me until now to finish watching all of it. Without further ado, though, read on for my impressions of Microsoft's big E3 announcements!
